Sister to venues in Shoreditch and Brixton, Blues Kitchen Camden is one of our absolute favourites. Located on bustling Camden High Street, this is as much a delicious BBQ restaurant as it is a thriving bar and live music venue. With expertly cooked chicken, burgers, BBQ ribs jostling for air-time on…
Description
Watermelon Slim has built a remarkable reputation with his raw, impassioned intensity. With an ever-expanding career of ramshackle grandeur, Slim has garnered 17 Blues Music Award nominations, comparable only with the likes of B.B. King, Buddy Guy, and Robert Cray.
Born in Boston and raised in North Carolina, Slim grew up listening to American blues singer-songwriter, John Lee Hooker, and in 1973, made his debut appearance on the music scene with his protest record, Merry Airbrakes. Eleven albums later he says, “Everything I do now has a sharper pleasure to it. I’ve lived a fuller life than most people could in two. If I go now, I’ve got a good education, I’ve lived on three continents, and I’ve played music with a bunch of immortal blues players. I’ve fought in a war and against a war. I’ve seen an awful lot and I’ve done an awful lot. If my plane went down tomorrow, I’d go out on top.” When you watch him perform, you know every word is true.
Hailed by Bonnie Raitt as a living blues legend, he brings his Mississippi Delta Style of Blues to Camden for an extraordinary night of foot-tapping music.
